My main goal as a doula is to help you feel as safe and comfortable as possible, and, even more importantly, work with you to build your self-confidence regarding giving birth. As a Doula I support all types of families through their own journeys into and throughout parenthood, I am here to support you.
This support can be in person if you are in Belfast, Northern Ireland or surrounding (contact me to check your location) or via online if you are in any other part of the world.
I am pretty flexible in terms of my work as this can be: a couple of antenatal sessions online, to a more in-depth face to face meetings to discuss birth and postnatal plans; or just some practical support postnatally right after birth or a couple months into parenthood – you name it!
Doula Services
Why you should have a Doula
"There are several reasons why we think doulas are so effective. The first reason is the “harsh environment” theory. In most developed countries, ever since birth moved out of the home and into the hospital, labouring people are frequently submitted to institutional routines, high intervention rates, staff who are strangers, lack of privacy, bright lighting, and needles."*
Scientific Evidence shows that doulas could decrease the relative risk on the following:
39%
decrease in the risk of Cesarean
38%
decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five minute Apgar score
15%
increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth
10%
decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief; the type of person providing continuous support did not make a difference
31%
decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience; mothers’ risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience was reduced with continuous support provided by a doula or someone in their social network (family or friend), but not hospital staff
minutes shorter labours

Pregnancy Support
As a doula I hope to be a source of comfort, encouragement, humour and information during your pregnancy and birth journey. Whether you are planning a home birth, a hospital birth or if you haven’t decided yet, I will help you by providing information (based on scientific evidence) to help you and your partner (if you have one) making informed decisions about the journey that makes more sense for you. I am also here to respect your decisions and support you.
Through these sessions we will discuss different topics about pregnancy, childbirth, and postnatal care to help you to understand the birth physiology and the normal procedures in the different scenarios. I believe that by having this information based in evidence throughout your journey is a great way to reduce any fears or anxieties that you might have.
Birth Support
I totally believe that our bodies know exactly what to do, when comes to birth, is no different, and you are the best person to know what to do and when. I am only here to be your birth guardian, to make sure: that all your decisions are always respected; that your partner is calm and connected with you and baby and I will be there to help you in any practical way.
I will be on call 24/7 from 38 weeks until the baby is born. I will be coming over or jumping in a call whenever you need me and stay up to 2h after birth. I will also visit you in-person or online postnatally to make you feel heard and understood, validated and encouraged, and inspired and grounded to embrace the new life unfolding in and around you.
