Once again, it feels almost impossible to put into words what we lived and shared during these oxytocinated three-and-a-half days at the European Doula Network (EDN) Conference 2025 in Vilnius.

The organising team did a truly fabulous job, every detail was carefully thought out, and they welcomed us into Lithuanian culture in the most meaningful way. We were introduced to traditional food, language, and birth rituals, and were reminded that birth work is deeply rooted in culture and community. To experience this in such an authentic way was a gift. Lithuania revealed itself to be a country rich in history, beauty, and soul, and the people reflected that same warmth, exactly the same as I remembered from my Erasmus experience back in 2008.

One of the most special things about EDN is the way it brings doulas together. There is a unique magic in meeting doulas for the first time and instantly feeling as though you’ve known them forever. At the same time, reconnecting with those I had met in previous years felt effortless, almost like continuing a dialogue exactly where we had left off, as if no time had passed at all. These gatherings are more than meetings or a conference; they are reunions of the heart.

EDN weekends are always intense in the best possible way. They are spaces where you feel safe enough to let your emotions flow freely, knowing there will be open arms to hold you and open hearts to witness you. There is laughter, tears, learning, and unspoken understanding. We leave lighter, fuller, and deeply nourished by the collective energy we share.

This year was especially powerful for me. On the second day, something shifted, and I found my purpose within the gathering. Not that one needs a clear purpose to attend, but for me, it arrived very strongly and undeniably. EDN 2025 in Vilnius showed me something I had long doubted: that I have a voice. That voice is my superpower, and it is mine to use. I also realised that belonging doesn’t have to be confined to one place. My heart is big enough to hold many homes, and I feel them all deeply. This year, I proudly represented both Portugal and Northern Ireland, because I am both, and both are home. Carrying these two roots with me and being able to honour them in the circle was one of the most affirming experiences I’ve had as a doula and a woman.

And amidst all of this, there was even room for a little magic on my skin, I squeezed in two new tattoos while in Vilnius. What made it truly special was being able to share my doula work and skills with the two incredible women tattoo artists who created them. It felt like a beautiful exchange of art, trust, and care, and yet another reminder of how connection can appear in the most unexpected places.

I carry Vilnius with me now, in my heart, in my memories, and even etched on my skin.

To all the doulas who were there: thank you for your presence, your wisdom, your stories, your love and your AMAZING hugs. To those I will meet in the future: I cannot wait.

I am already looking forward to continuing this journey with you all in Istanbul next year.
