Do you know this book?
A couple of nights ago, my little boy chose a book for me to read. It’s been a long time since I’ve read to him as he now loves reading by himself, but he chose Lilith's Treasure.
It’s a beautiful book about sexuality, pleasure and the menstrual cycle, written and illustrated in a gorgeous, caring and magical way, also available in eight different languages.
I feel very lucky to have this amazing son in my life. He has come to show and teach me so much, not only about myself, but also how to see the world with different eyes and question things in different ways. Yes, we talk a lot about our bodies and menstruation (age-appropriate of course!) and I believe these things should be talked about and learned at home. Home should be a place of emotional safety, communication and openness.
Especially for boys, because there’s still this “boys and girls” stereotype around what they should or shouldn’t know depending on their sex. I believe that sharing these things with boys will make them more aware, respectful and sensitive to women.
Do you have boys, and do you talk about these things?
